It looks like like failed talk show host and comedian Al Franken will be named the winner in Minnesota’s Senate recount battle. There were more than a few accusations of shenanigans, which the Wall Street Journal has chronicled. The battle is not yet over, as Norm Coleman vows a legal challenge to what his campaign deems as unfair ballot inclusions and shifting counting standards.

I think the only way you’re excited about this is if you’re a hardcore partisan. Franken’s win over Coleman isn’t really a numerical game-changer – it merely pads the Democrats already healthy majority. Indeed, I firmly believe Franken at some point is going to prove a liability to Senate Democrats with his unhinged behavior, and we are almost assured of Franken trying at some juncture to inject his comedy skills into a national legislative debate. As always, be careful what you wish for.
