Sorry, but I couldn’t let this one go by. Hustler’s Larry Flynt and Girls Gone Wild’s Joe Francis will reportedly ask Congress for a bailout. Obviously, the potential for humor here is astronomical – I’m going to leave that to folks better qualified than me. Though I guess this might be what they meant when they said “too big to fail.” (I tried, really…)
Is this injection of federal funds going to happen? Probably not, though I would love to see those hearings. Is the request even being made seriously? Probably not. But it does expose the laughable nature of bailouts and the mad rush to get in on the government pot o’ gold. Kinda sad, really, if you think about it. In any case, never fear, this is one “money shot” the porn industry won’t get a piece of. (See? It’s just impossible to resist!)

In a heads-up post by Frank J. at IMAO, we learn that the election of Barack Obama has produced a resurgence of patriotism in the hard left. It’s ironic that September 11th forced the Berkeley Fire Department to remove flags from their trucks to prevent them from being targets for anti-war thugs while the election of Obama provoked flag-waving and Anthem-singing in those same neighborhoods. The hypocrisy and chutzpah of mocking the “idiotic knee-jerk” patriotism of the right before suddenly breaking out in a paroxysm of pro-Americanism when an election goes your way is quite simply staggering.
Reading the article, I’m struck by how easily enamored the so-called intellectual elite can become. Obama is still at this point an empty vessel – with soaring promises and no record of action, people can project whatever hopes they might have onto him. That he is seen as a fundamental shift in politics from the last four decades is yet another premature superlative foisted on a man who has yet to sign a single bill into law.
Feeling for one’s country should not be dictated by who is leading it. Conservatives would be just as crass and childish if they lost pride in our nation under Obama. In actuality, Obama’s presidency will probably mirror that of Clinton and, yes, some aspects of Bush. The true irony will be when these now-ecstatic hard leftists come to that same realization.
UPDATE: Great post at Big Hollywood noting the newly found love of country for the Hollywood set.

After all the bluster about how they would never accept any appointment by embattled Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, Senate Democrats have begun to clear the way for Roland Burris to be sworn in as a U.S. Senator. There are some technicalities to be cleared up, such as the Illinois secretary of state signing Burris’ certification, but it’s likely a court will force that to happen.
The real loser in all of this (except for the Illinois electorate) is Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. He looked like a posturing buffoon as he pretended to act ethically tough before thuggishly barring Burris from physical entry onto the Senate floor. Despite all of that posing, he caved in as it became obvious he had no legal justification for opposing Blagojevich’s pick. It’s yet another example of his atrocious leadership, which is why he’s in trouble in his home state of Nevada, and for my money, if he eventually goes, it won’t be too soon.
